Established in 1958 the South African Jockey Academy is a non-profit company (NPC) with a wealth of experience and has been educating and training professional jockeys over the last 65 years. It has produced no less than 29 Champion Jockeys in 7 countries, other than our own annual South African Champion Jockey.
The South African Jockey Academy has embraced the 21st Century technology and adopts a scientific, holistic approach to their training methods. Through focusing on the process of continual development of skills and appreciation of the sport, the Academy places each apprentice at the core of the programme and ensures they are equipped to rise to the needs and demands required of an elite athlete.

COACHES
The riding department consists of experienced riding masters and instructors who are passionate about coaching and passing on their invaluable knowledge and experience to the next generation of riders.

SUPPORT TEAM
The Academy adopts a scientific approach to the training of their riders. Their team of experts, known as the rider support team includes a nursing sister, dietician, sports scientist, biokineticist and sports psychologist.

The academic department consists of dedicated and motivated teachers who are passionate about ensuring the academic success of each student while allowing them the opportunity to pursue their riding dreams.
FACILITIES
The South African Jockey Academy is situated on 13 hectares adjacent to the Summerveld Training centre. We are within 15 kilometers of shopping centres and a private hospital with easy access to the N3 main highway. Summerveld is home to 28 trainers and approximately 1500 racehorses. Our apprentices have immediate access to 2 grass tracks, 3 dirt tracks and 1 poly track. Racing opportunities from 2 racecourses in KZN, Greyville and Scottsville and our Satellite Academy in Gauteng offers work riding experience at Randjesfontein Training centre and racing opportunities at Turffontein and Vaal racecourses.
